eREACHNano – free web tool launched to help with registration of nanomaterials
eREACHNano is a new web tool focused on helping small and medium-sized companies that may lack sufficient in-house expertise on the regulation covering nanomaterials.
The e-learning tool consists of three main parts: ”About nanomaterials”, ”Risk background” with an introduction to risk assessment, including hazard and exposure assessment of chemicals (both nanomaterials and bulk chemicals), and ”REACH introduction”.
Through a series of small video animations, the data requirements for nanoforms according to the REACH guideline documents are explained, including:
- definition of nanomaterials
- types of nanomaterials
- overview of nanomaterial-specific annexes to existing REACH guidance
- chemical and physical characterisation of nanomaterials
- testing of nanomaterials
- exposure and risk assessment of nanomaterials.
The tool is available in English.
Information requirements from REACH revision December 2018 to be included
A specific revision of the REACH information requirements for nanomaterials was adopted by the European Commission in December 2018. The amendments clarify the information that companies placing substances in nanoform on the market need to provide in their registration dossiers. The new rules apply as of 1 January 2020.
eREACHNano does not include the new requirements of December 2018. These will be included in a subsequent version of the web-tool to be launched later this year.
Development and funding of eREACHNano
The working group N-Nano of the Nordic Council of Ministers, the official body for inter-governmental cooperation in the Nordic region, initiated the development of the web tool in order to provide an easily usable online tool to explain EU chemical legislation requirements for nanoforms. The tool was developed by DHI A/S in close collaboration with the N-Nano working group and funded by the Nordic Council of Ministers, Nordic Working Group for Chemicals, Environment, and Health, and DHI A/S.
You can access the web-tool on http://ereachnano.dhigroup.com.
